How To Organize A Clownarchy Event:

- From Clownarchy.org -

1) Gather some friends, read over and agree to the Clownarchy Manifesto (primarily it's says we agree to be non-violence, non-destruction and that we maintain an intent-to-delight).

2) Choose date and place for your event, preferably someplace crowded, and unexpected. Our first action was a group of clownarchists riding on BART in San Francisco. Give yourself 2-4 weeks to get together props, costumes, and do at least one rehearsal.

3) Read over the GAGS and choose which ones you want to do. The easiest way is if each clown is just part of one GAG. Be ambitious, but not overambitious. Be aware that complex props and costumes take time and energy. Also choose out a few of the clown chants to rehearse.  Practice those NOW! They're fun and have a uniting effect. Also feel free to create your own.

4) Make a list of the props you'll need. Figure out who will be in charge of which props.

5) Schedule a day to work on props with others, and at least one rehearsal day as well.

6) Spread the word about your event. Invite others to help with props, and to join in on rehearsal and event dates. Put out a press release. Put up flyers, place ads online, or in local newspapers.

7) Become clowns. Put together clown outfits, get noses and make-up, and go wild! Create the clown that is YOU!

8) Collect/ build/ sew/ borrow/ buy the necessary props & costumes.

9) At the rehearsal, rehearse with your friends.  There is no substitute for actually going through the routines a number of times till they go smoothly, including doing them as close as possible to performance conditions (with available props,  pretending that there are people there, without stopping, just as you would at an event.)

10) Go out at the agreed upon hour and give 'em heck! All the rehearsal and everything aside, you are here to have fun.

If you find that you are not succeeding at delighting people, or you get into an uncomfortable situation, where the odds of being delightful go way down, simply stop, take a short break to regroup, and try again!

Nobody ever does this right without some failures. So be kind to yourself, regardless of the results.

Remember: Intent is key here. It doesn't matter how well or poorly you do as long as the intent of all your actions is to delight.

Remember also: Clowning is the one thing you can do really badly, and nobody will laugh at you.
