FREESTYLE DANCING

The freestyle dances in the Bay Area are great fun.  No smoking, drinking or drugs, no shoes on the dance floor. Aside from that, almost everything is welcome. 

Found in dance studios, not bars, a whole different feeling is created.  We dance mainly to recorded music, but people play drums and other instruments creating a unique blend. People move however they feel drawn to move, dancing alone, with a partner, or with a huge circle of people.  You can sit in the middle of the floor, or stare at yourself in the mirror, hop around in circles, or experiment in any way you like.

The friendships here can go very deep. The sweetness of being around so many people who encourage you to move as your heart tells you to is beyond words.  It's a safe place to play with flirty/sexual energy, and with a full range of emotions. Men can dance with other men without the stigma that so often goes along with that.

There are people dancing contact improv., professional dancers, and people in every sort of shape, even people in wheelchairs (mainly at 'Dance Jam').  You can't imagine what it's like without experiencing it.
